Soccer is the world’s most popular sport.  While organized leagues and structured matches have their charm, there’s something uniquely exhilarating about pickup soccer. Informal games played in local parks or neighborhood fields bring people of all ages and backgrounds together. This fosters a sense of community and providing a range of benefits beyond the sport itself.

Coaches who constantly tell players how to play may limit how they think about the game.   If trainings are all pre-designed and your practice games are interrupted for training then the only actual opportunities you may have to think and be creative will occur at actual game time.

Club soccer often focuses on building ball skills and a basic understanding of the game.  Coaches often stress the technical side of the game more than speed and physicality.   Unfortunately, many coaches continue to teach set pieces, even as the players get older.  Players are often told where they should be passing the ball. Often they practice specific drills with the goal of moving the ball in certain ways.

Street soccer has fewer rules of play.  This means there are fewer things to limit a player’s creativity.  Players improve their foot skills and technical ability by actually working the ball.  They learn how to dupe and juke out their opposition.  Players rely on instincts and creativity.  They don’t have time to think, only to react.  If a player is learning to play through just that – playing, he may have more opportunities to be creative.  He’ll be seeing how other players move and think.  Exposure to other styles of play will only expand his own.  It provides a great opportunity  to work on individual skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting. It also teaches team skills such as positioning, teamwork, and strategy.
